Divisional Playoffs: Day 1

Colts 15 Ravens 6

This is the best Colts team in recent years in my opinion. They are winning football games in a manner that they are not accustomed to. In past years, they have won their playoff games with monster offensive performances by Peyton Manning and company. This year, it is the complete opposite. If you ask Manning, he would say he has his C game at best. In 2 wins, he has 1 touchdown and a whopping 5 interceptions. In 16 regular season games, he threw 9 interceptions. The story has been the much ridiculed Colt defense. In 2 playoff games, Indianapolis has allowed 7 points per game. Jamal Lewis had 53 yards rushing and the Ravens as a team only had 83. More importantly, the Colts forced 4 Raven turnovers. Last week against the Chiefs, the Colts allowed only 32 yards to the alleged 2nd best running back in the NFL, Larry Johnson. KC as a team only rushed for 44 yards and the Colts forced 3 Chief turnovers. The Colts, through 2 playoff games, have allowed 63.5 ypg on the ground. This is down from an NFL worst 173 ypg in the regular season. It is the Colts defense winning them games right now while their offense is not playing like they can. If Manning and the offense pick it up, the Colts may be impossible to beat.

Saints 27 Eagles 21

I thought Andy Reid was a good NFL coach until I watched the 4th quarter of this football game. Down 27-21, the Eagles faced a 2nd and 1 from the 3. They didn't convert on 2nd down or 3rd down, so the Eagles settled for a 22 yard field goal to cut the lead to 3. Why? The Eagles knew they would need to score again regardless so why not take a shot at the lead when you are at the 4 yard line. Coaches in this league are just too afraid to make the wrong decision that they ultimately make the wrong decision. This is especially true when your opponent is just marching all over you all day on the ground. Later in the 4th quarter, the Eagles faced a 4th and 10. This was with just under 2 minutes left. They went for it and converted only for the play to be called back on a foul start. Then on 4th and 15, down 3, with 2 timeouts left and under 2 minutes, the Eagles punt. They punt?!?!?!!? Reid punted depending on their defense to get a stop so the Eagles can get the ball back with about 50 seconds and no timeouts. That is asking a lot in itself. The Eagles showed no sign of stopping the run all day so I don't know why Reid all of the sudden thought they could. The Saints rushed for 208 yards on the ground at 5.6 yards per carry. Of course, the Saints easily got the first down and ran out the clock. Coaches in this league need to stop being so afraid of messing up that they end up making the dumbest decisions possible.

Predictions for Day 2

Seahawks 23 Bears 16, Grossman Sucks

Patriots 27 Chargers 13, Shottenheimer is 5-12 in the playoffs, Belichick is 12-1. Marty is 1-3 as a 1 seed. That is bad.
