Tiger Woods v. Roger Federer: Who is more dominant?

After their most recent accomplishments, the very difficult question of who is more dominant, Tiger or Roger, has been posed. Woods capped off his 7th consecutive PGA tour win, the longest streak in 61 years and the 2nd longest of all time. Federer won his 10th grand slam in record fashion, by winning all 21 sets in the tournament.

So who is more dominant?

The answer, in my opinion, is obvious. It has to be Tiger Woods for many reasons.
  1. Reger Federer only needed to beat 7 guys individually, one guy at a time. In the first 4 rounds of the tournament, he played relative no names. He can put it on cruise control and win those matches. Therefore, he only needs to really play well for 3 matches. You can also argue that his opponents in these final 3 rounds weren't all that special either. Let's face it, Andy Roddick is tennis' best example of Phil Mickelson. Roddick is 1-12 verse Federer and really has no chance of beating him. On the contrary, Tiger Woods needs to defeat some 153 other players and needs to play well on 4 consecutive days. People say well Tiger only beat rookies this weekend at the Buick. That isn't entirely true. The field included the 2nd and 3rd ranked players in the world in Mickelson and Singh. Tiger beat them by over 10 strokes. Also, all these golfers are very good and are capable of playing the round of their life or the tournament of their life on any given week and posting a ridiculous 61. In tennis though, when you are better than someone, you are just better, and unless you pull a hammy, you will beat them 99% of the time.
  2. Federer hasn't even won all of his sports major tournaments. The French Open, tennis' equivalent of golf's British Open, has illuded Federer for 8 years. Tiger has won every major in his sport twice at least. If you are going to be the most dominant man in sports, you need to win every major tournament in your sport. Federer isn't the best player on clay, so he doesn't completely dominate his sport.
  3. People say well Tiger is older and has been pro much longer. Federer turned pro in 1998, only 2 years after Tiger Woods has turned pro, in 1996. Since Federer turned pro, Tiger has the edge in majors, 11-10. Tiger has also won more tournaments in that span.
  4. Federer has no competition. You can say he is just that good and that much better than everyone but in reality, the guy has noone that poses a serious threat to him on any surface other than clay. He beat Roddick 6-2 6-0 6-2. That is similar to Eldrick beating Ames 9 and 8. This guy is supposed to be a rival to the world's number 1 and he wins 4 games in 3 sets. That isn't a rival. Roddick is merely a blip on Federer's radar. The same argument can be made about Woods, that he doesn't have a true rival, like Jack and Arnie. Well, it may be true that noone matches up to Tiger individually. But in a field of over 150 people, there will be one player that has the week of his life that week. So in each tournament, for the most part, Tiger will have someone that challenges him. That is, until Sunday when he is paired up with Tiger and his week of his life turns into disaster. Tiger played with 2 players, one on Saturday and one on Sunday this week who entered the round in contention. They fired an 80 and 76 respectively and fell off the 2nd page of the leaderboard.
  5. Tiger's intimidation factor isn't matched in sports. People seem to fold by the mere sight of his name on the leaderboard on the final round. He has yet to be challenged in a major by one of the sports better golfers. The only time Tiger has been challenged was by relative no names Bob May and Rich Beem who didn't know where they were or what they were doing. A perfect example is the '99 PGA when Mike Weir was having the tournament of his life, firing 3 rounds in the 60's to get into the final group with Tiger. Weir followed that up with a final round 80.
  6. People say that tennis takes more athletic ability than golf. I agree, but golf takes more skill and more patience. Anyone who has played golf can agree that it is the hardest sport to play. Mastering golf seems to be impossible even for the best players in the world.

Federer is dominant, but not as dominant as Tiger. Winning 7 straight matches in straight sets is impressive, but not as impressive as winning 7 straight starts on tour. Tiger has had to be consistent for 28 consecutive rounds over a span of months, not 14 days like Federer. Tiger has defeated a grand total of 1050 players in these 7 tournaments. In 7 tournaments Federer needs to beat 49 at most. I don't think the conversation of who is more dominant can even be had until Federer wins a French Open. This could never happen since Nadal seems to have his number. At least he will have some competition for that tournament.

McGahee and the Sabres

It has been a while since I have published a post but after some recent happenings in the Buffalo area, it seemed like a good time to return to the journalism portion of my life.

First of all, a certain Buffalo bar is asking for McGahee jerseys to use as bar rags. This add was actually published in a magazine called "Artvoice" (if you would like to see the add, go to buffalosportsdude.blogspot.com). This is a perfect example of why I am beginning to hate Buffalo sports fans. This is one of the most ridiculous, wait...this is THE MOST ridiuclous thing I have ever seen in this area in my life. I would be willing to bet that bars in downtown Dallas aren't even begging for Owens jerseys to use to wipe tables. This is unbelievable. Yeah, Willis ripped up Buffalo in Penthouse, but Buffalo is declining so that comment really wasn't bad. The move Buffalo to Toronto comment which according to McGahee (Rosenhaus) was taken out of context really could have been. How do we know? This is a porn magazine we are talking about so I am sure they don't have the top of the line journalists. Also, Willis said good things about how Buffalo had the best fans in the league. Most people didn't hear about that because the media didn't feel like talking about that aspect (except channel 2, who was probably fined for mentioning it by somebody). Further, Willis (Drew R.) wants a contract extension. Let's face the facts, Willis hasn't been making ANY noise about a new contract this offseason thus far. The only time I have heard anything about an alleged extension was in a newspaper article after the season ended. Of course, the media like WGR made a huge deal about it saying that McGahee was making "noise" and didn't deserve an extension and that he is terrible and unproductive, etc. I haven't heard a single peep out of Willis so far and he seems content to play out his current deal with the Bills. In my expert (or lost [to some people]) opinion, Willis has done enough to be given a new contract as long as he doesn't want LT money. McGahee is going to have a break out year this year. No new system, no Mike Mularkey...I would be surprised if he doesn't run for 1500 yards.

This just in...The Sabres are average. I have been saying it since October when they were winning half their games via shootout and they depended on scoring 4 or 5 goals a game to do so. Well reality is setting in. Buffalo has only won 4 games in their past 11 including a loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, one of the worst teams in the West, last night. Their lead over New Jersey has crept down to 5 points, and the way the two teams are going, that lead could be erased within the next 10 days. The Sabres are under .500 in their division and can't beat Ottawa. It seems to me that Buffalo is a very flawed hockey team. They are way undersized so it is easy for teams to out physical them. Secondly, their special teams leaves a lot to be desired. Their power play and penalty killing are both below average. Finally, their goaltending is average at best. I thought it was ridiculous that Miller started the all star game. It seems like he gives up 3 goals every game lately including a minimum of 1 goal every single 3rd period. People around here are starting to worry. Yeah, I hope the Sabres bounce back, but I think people are getting what they asked for by turning their backs on the most important part of our city, the Bills.

The blog is back...look for new posts at least once every 2 days.

Day 2 of the Divisional Round

Let me just first sat that I made a 10 dollar triple parlay that paid out 310. All I needed was the Colts, Patriots, and Seahawks to win. That takes me to the first game on Sunday at Soldier FIeld.

Seahawks @ Bears

Once again, the NFL proves to me that it's coaches are completely clueless. This is why betting on the NFL is hard to do. You can't depend on an NFL coach to make a rather arbitrary coaching decision. In the waining minutes of the 4th quarter in a tie game at 24, the Seahawks faced a 4th and 1 around the Bear 45. In a tie game of this magnitude with this much time left against a very good defense, what would make a coach decide to go for it. I give coaches a lot of heat for not going for it in certain situations but this is NOT one of them. Punt the football, pin the bears deep. You are punting the football to Rex Grossman. If the Bears go 3 and out you will get the ball back around the 45 yard line anyways to give youself a chance to win. Also, with Rexy, there is always a chance to turn it over. Instead the Hawks went for it, got stuffed and gave the Bears the ball at the 45 to try and win the game. Thank god for the Hawks, Grossman is a bum and Chicago went 3 and out. The Seahawks still cost themselves 40 yards of field position and untimately, im my opinion, the game and my $310.

Patriots @ Chargers

Who didn't see this coming. It seems as if the most devastating playoff losses have all been suffered by Marty Shottenheimer. The drive and the fumble in the 90's. Len Elliott's 3 missed field goals in a 10-7 loss in the mid 90's. And now, Marty has suffered the fumble part II. Up 21-13 with about 7 minutes left, the Patriots faced a 4th down. Brady's pass was intercepted by Marlon McCree who rather than just going down, decided to try and gain an extra 5 yards for whatever reason while holding the ball like a loaf of bread. Troy Brown forced the fumbled, New England recovered and then drove down and scored a TD and a 2 point conversion. At this point, the whole world knew the ballgame was over. Brady, who can play like Jim Kelly circa Super Bowl 27 for 3 quarters, always morphs into Joe Montana of the 80's in the 4th quarter. Also, LT proved he is a sore loser in my opinion. Just because his team choked big time in the 4th doesn't mean he needs to take cracks at the best coach in the NFL, as much as I hate Belichick. Everyone secretly wanted to see a Colts Patriots battle next Sunday, as long as the Colts absolutely roll New England. I can't stand to see them win another super bowl.

Divisional Playoffs: Day 1

Colts 15 Ravens 6

This is the best Colts team in recent years in my opinion. They are winning football games in a manner that they are not accustomed to. In past years, they have won their playoff games with monster offensive performances by Peyton Manning and company. This year, it is the complete opposite. If you ask Manning, he would say he has his C game at best. In 2 wins, he has 1 touchdown and a whopping 5 interceptions. In 16 regular season games, he threw 9 interceptions. The story has been the much ridiculed Colt defense. In 2 playoff games, Indianapolis has allowed 7 points per game. Jamal Lewis had 53 yards rushing and the Ravens as a team only had 83. More importantly, the Colts forced 4 Raven turnovers. Last week against the Chiefs, the Colts allowed only 32 yards to the alleged 2nd best running back in the NFL, Larry Johnson. KC as a team only rushed for 44 yards and the Colts forced 3 Chief turnovers. The Colts, through 2 playoff games, have allowed 63.5 ypg on the ground. This is down from an NFL worst 173 ypg in the regular season. It is the Colts defense winning them games right now while their offense is not playing like they can. If Manning and the offense pick it up, the Colts may be impossible to beat.

Saints 27 Eagles 21

I thought Andy Reid was a good NFL coach until I watched the 4th quarter of this football game. Down 27-21, the Eagles faced a 2nd and 1 from the 3. They didn't convert on 2nd down or 3rd down, so the Eagles settled for a 22 yard field goal to cut the lead to 3. Why? The Eagles knew they would need to score again regardless so why not take a shot at the lead when you are at the 4 yard line. Coaches in this league are just too afraid to make the wrong decision that they ultimately make the wrong decision. This is especially true when your opponent is just marching all over you all day on the ground. Later in the 4th quarter, the Eagles faced a 4th and 10. This was with just under 2 minutes left. They went for it and converted only for the play to be called back on a foul start. Then on 4th and 15, down 3, with 2 timeouts left and under 2 minutes, the Eagles punt. They punt?!?!?!!? Reid punted depending on their defense to get a stop so the Eagles can get the ball back with about 50 seconds and no timeouts. That is asking a lot in itself. The Eagles showed no sign of stopping the run all day so I don't know why Reid all of the sudden thought they could. The Saints rushed for 208 yards on the ground at 5.6 yards per carry. Of course, the Saints easily got the first down and ran out the clock. Coaches in this league need to stop being so afraid of messing up that they end up making the dumbest decisions possible.

Predictions for Day 2

Seahawks 23 Bears 16, Grossman Sucks

Patriots 27 Chargers 13, Shottenheimer is 5-12 in the playoffs, Belichick is 12-1. Marty is 1-3 as a 1 seed. That is bad.

Willis is not starting the off season on the right foot.

Over the past 2 years, Willis McGahee has faced 2 paternity suits and now he will face a third. He is already paying child support for 2 children. McGahee has knocked up 3 different chicks in the past 2 years. That is rare.

Secondly, McGahee ripped up the city of Buffalo in Penthouse Magazine. When asked his thoughts about how the city of Buffalo was declining, Willis said that Buffalo is boring and that there is nothing to do in Buffalo. When asked about an NFL team in Toronto, McGahee said "That would be a good situation. Toronto is a beautiful place. But if they're going to put a team there, they should just bring the Buffalo Bills to Toronto. Case closed."

I think everyone would agree that McGahee isn't the smartest human being, but this takes the cake. Why would you make a comment like that about the city you play for. People already thought that McGahee didn't want to be here already and when he makes a comment about how the team should be moved to Toronto, he is asking to be shipped out of here. My take on this is that Willis had no idea what he was saying as usual. Let's face it, Buffalo is declining. Also, if you ask all NFL fans nationwide, 80% would say move the Bills. I am not saying that what McGahee said is OK by any means, but I am not calling for him to be sent out of here right away.

What you may not have heard was the rest of the interview. All that wgr 550 radio talked about all day was the negative comments that McGahee said. This is because wgr hates the Bills and Mike Schopp is a die hard Sabres fan and probably wants the Bills out of here. When that station has a chance to rip up a Bills player or the team they take full advantage of it and it pisses me off. McGahee talked about how he owes the Buffalo organization. He said "I got a lotta love for Buffalo, I thank God for the whole situation. I'm trying to make them proud. I'm trying to do some things here."

Unlike most people, I respect that and I believe it. It doesn't outweigh his other comments but I still would take this to heart. The Bills did take a chance in making him a first round pick and I believe that he does owe it to the Bills for that. Well Willis, next year is your last chance. If you don't have a great year, you won't be here in '08 and if you keep making comments like that in porn magazines, you won't be here in '07.

FINAL GRADES

I will list the grade the player receives and whether or not their stock is rising. I will also mention my thoughts on their chances of returning next year.

OFFENSE
  • QB, JP Losman
    • B (rising). JP has earned the right to return next season as the Bills starter. He has shown more than enough potential and in some cases he has shown signs of greatness. I am excited to see him progress further in his 4th year.
  • RB, Willis McGahee
    • B (falling). I still defend Willis in that he is a top 10 runner in this league. He needs to run harder though before he loses all of the faith of Bills fans. I also think he needs to be used differently than he is. Willis will return next year as the starter if he plays at his current deal. If he holds out, he could be gone.
  • WR, Lee Evans
    • A+ (rising). Lee is a budding superstar. He had 83 catches for nearly 1300 yards and 8 touchdowns. Him and JP have a thing going and it is exciting. Evans had a pro bowl season and will get a lot of attention next years as the Bills' number one wide out.
  • WR, Peerless Price
    • C (steady). Peerless just isn't the same guy the Bills had in 2002. He is a decent receiver that would be better as a number 3. He did make a few big plays this year, but it seems like his play making ability has declined over the years. I would be surprised if Peerless returns next year as the Bills number 2 receiver.
  • WR, Josh Reed
    • B (rising). Josh can catch and is tough to tackle. I am beginning to love Josh as our slot receiver and he will definitely be in that role next year.
  • WR, Roscoe Parrish
    • B (rising). Roscoe can make big plays for the Bills on special teams and in the passing game. I love how he isn't afraid to go over the middle and take the big hit either. Roscoe could be the Bills number 2 next season although I doubt it.
  • TE, Robert Royal
    • F (falling). You know how I feel about this bum. Get him out of here, I am surprised he hasn't been cut yet.
  • FB, Daimon Shelton
    • C (steady). He is a decent run blocker for Willis and should be back next year.
  • LT, Jason Peters
    • A (rising). Once moved to LT, Jason was the anchor of the Bills line. You hardly heard from him because he was rarely getting beat. He got the better of the defensive MVP Taylor in their match-up. Peters will be back no doubt.
  • LG, Mike Gandy
    • C (steady). Gandy improved once he was moved inside but he still isn't very solid. He is an UFA and I would be surprised the Bills signed him. I think Buffalo will try to bolster their line either in the draft or free agency.
  • C, Melvin Fowler
    • C (steady). He didn't really impress me. Fowler is an average center in this league but I see him starting next year for the Bills.
  • RG, Duke Preston
    • C+ (rising). Preston did well when plugged into RG once Reyes because a bust. I think he will continue to improve and progress and will start at guard next season.
  • RT, Terrance Pennington
    • C (rising). Pennington also exceeded expectations when thrown into the lineup as a rookie. He didn't make too many mistakes out there except vs. the run, but the whole line struggled in that aspect. He should return next season at RT as well.
DEFENSE
  • DE, Aaron Schobel
    • A (steady). Aaron is a solid defensive end although I don't think he is as good as his season indicates. He got a lot of sacks in garbage time. He made the pro bowl and you need to give him props for that. Schobel will be back in 2007.
  • DT, Larry Tripplett
    • C (falling). Tripplett couldn't rush the passer and couldn't stop the run. I don't like the signing and unless he has a monster DT next to him I think he will be ineffective. He will return next year as a starter though.
  • DT, Kyle Williams
    • B- (steady). Kyle had a good season as a rookie and showed some signs of being a solid player in this league. However, he is not the answer as a starting tackle as Buffalo needs to bolster that position. I do not think he should return next year as a starter.
  • DE, Chyan Kelsenney
    • C (steady). Kelsay and Denney are just average players. Kelsay will be gone and Denney isn't good enough to start. The Bills need to bring in a DE to fill the void and if not it will be Ryan at LE.
  • ROLB, Angelo Crowell
    • B+ (rising). Angelo is an up and coming player. He played well this year before the injury. Angelo will be back next year but he may play playing MLB with Fletcher most likely gone.
  • MLB, London Fletcher
    • A- (steady). London racked up a ton of tackles and 4 picks on top of that. He was in a contract year and earned himself a big contract. London is gone from Buffalo leaving a void in the linebacker core.
  • LOLB, Takeo Spikes
    • B (falling). He is a sad memory of the 04 version of spikes. He seemed to improve at the end of the season but he still has a long way to go. I think he will be back next season as the left outside backer and I am hoping he returns to form. In 2004 he was the best OLB in the league.
  • CB, Nate Clements
    • A- (rising). Nate had a great 2nd half to validate himself as a premier corner. He is a free agent and will cost a lot of money, money the Bills probably won't fork over. Nate probably will be gone in 2007.
  • SS, Dante Whitner
    • B (steady). He didn't make nearly enough big plays but he was a rookie and was solid. Whitner will be back next year and should be a much better player.
  • FS, Ko Simpson
    • B- (rising). Ko exceeded expectations as a 4th round pick. He played very well at FS and rarely got beat deep if at all. I am excited about these 2 young safeties growing together.
  • CB, Terrance McGee
    • B- (steady). Terrance is a much better special teamer than cornerback. He will be starting next year and could be forced into the number one corner position if Clements is gone. I don't think he is good enough for that.
Special Teams
  • P, Brian Moorman
    • A+ (rising). He is the best in the business.
  • K, Rian Lindell
    • A (rising). He is very accurate and proved he can be clutch, minus the Colts game.
  • PR, Roscoe Parrish
    • A (rising). He is very dangerous back there and is very sure handed. He showed he can make magnificent plays.
  • KR, Terrance McGee
    • A- (steady). He was still among the best in the league but he seemed to have lost some speed. Maybe he will shed the weight he gained last season and become faster and more dangerous. He is still good though don't get me wrong.
12th Man
  • C (falling). 54,000 at a playoff type game is embarrassing. Now we are going to lose a home game to Europe.
COACHING
  • Head Coach Dick Jauron
    • C (steady). This guy is way too much of a pussy for my liking. Yeah our team improved in the second half of the season but his decisions and clock management made me cringe all season. He is a solid coach but he isn't a winner (1-5 as far as winning seasons go). I wouldn't mind seeing him gone but he will be back since the Bills seem to be moving in the right direction.
  • Offensive Coordinator Steve Fairchild
    • B (improving). The Bills offense made strides this season as did JP Losman. This is a testament to their coaching.
  • Defensive Coordinator Perry Fewell
    • C (steady). This defensive was terrible against the run, but that is because of lack of personnel. The Bills started 4 rookies on defense for a lot of games and considering that fact, Fewell did a decent job.
  • Special Teams Bobby April
    • A (rising). This guy is a pimp. The Bills special teams is among the best in the league every year.

Bills, 7-9, Season over, 7 straight years watching playoff games that don't involve the Buffalo Bills.

This was an up and down year for sure. The Bills surprised people out of the gate with that 1-1 start on the road in the division back when Miami was believed to be a Super Bowl contender. After stumbling at home vs. the Jets, the Bills bounced back to get to 2-2 before hitting the major low point of the season. The Bears, Lions, Patriots games featured a Bills team that didn't look like they belonged in the NFL. After the bye with the revamped offensive line, the Bills turned things around winning 5 of 7 to get to 7-7 and into playoff contention before losing their final 2 games. Had Buffalo won those 2 games, they would be in and playing the Patriots in the wild card.

Let's not kid ourselves however, this season was lost in week 1. The Bills traveled on the road to New England (who is 11-1 vs. the Bills over the past 6 years) to play a Super Bowl contender in the Patriots. This game previewed everything that would plague the Bills all season. Buffalo jumped to a 17-7 halftime lead and on their first drive in the third quarter the Bills marched down inside the Patriot 10. Facing a 4th and 1, Jauron went for it. McGahee didn't know the down and the Bills line couldn't get enough of a push to get the one yard. If the Bills score on this drive and make it 24-7 or even 20-7, they would have won that football game. Instead, New England took the ball, drove 90+ yards and scored, then added 9 more to take a 19-17 lead. Jauron aimlessly wasted timeouts in this game early in the second half. Maybe it was the inexperience, or he used them to settle down his team as the momentum swung. Robert Royal proved how much of a moron he was and is with his illegal block in the back that cost Buffalo a first down on a third down play. This block in the back occurred after Price had the first down and was going down. Buffalo instead faced another third down and couldn't convert and New England got the ball, killed the final 7 minutes, and won the football game. This happened because of the lack of running game when it mattered, terrible clock management, and stupid plays by Robert Royal.

Had Buffalo won this football game, this season would have been different and Buffalo would have probably been in the playoffs. If the Bills were 2-0, they weren't blowing that game against the Jets.

Five Worst Plays of the year

5. On 4th and 2 in the final seconds of the first half vs the Titans, the Bills let Vince Young run 36 yards for a touchdown. I don't care who you are, there is no way you can let a quarterback scramble for 36 yards on 4th down at the end of the half for a touchdown. That is embarrassing. I was sick after this play.

4. Down 7-3 in week 7 verse the Patriots, Brady moved the ball down the field and faced a 3rd and long in Bills territory. The Bills had great coverage on the play, and with noone to throw to, Brady was conceding the sack and slid down. Then, Chris Kelsay proceeded to dive at Brady along with London Fletcher costing the Bills a personal foul and first down. NE scored a touchdown on the next play.

3. Leading 7-0 early in week 3 versus the Jets, the Bills faced a 4th and 2 from the 35 with the wind at their back. Buffalo had all the momentum and this game looked like it was going to be a rout. Instead of simply going for it, or kicking a makable field goal, the Bills try a fake. Mooreman makes a bad pitch to left tackle Jason Peters, who fumbles and the Jets recover. To make this play worse, it was 2nd and 2 from the 35 and the pills went inc. pass, inc. pass, fake FG. Everyone knows Willis runs all over the Jets. He would get those 2 yards no doubt.

2. On third and 5 in the opener versus the Patriots trailing 19-17, JP Losman hits Peerless price over the middle for was seemed to be a first down. Then at the tail end of the play, Royal decided to block someone from behind. The outcome of this play would have been no different had Royal not touched the dude. Instead he cost the Bills a first down and a chance to win the football game.

1. Robert Royal versus the Titans. Are you fucking kidding me. Every time i see this replay I nearly vomit. How do you not get your feet down. Evans fires a beautiful pass to Royal, wide open 8 years deep and he takes a 2 yard step with one of his feet. I would cut a guy who did that, seriously. Not only was this the worst play of the season, but it was the worst play of my football watching career. Robert single handedly cost the Bills the playoffs this season.

Five best plays of the year

5. Willis McGahee's 50+ yard touchdown run against the Jets. McGahee puked after this play. Willis showed his burst after hitting the hole and getting into the Jets secondary. McGahee plays tough like he always does versus New York leading the Bills to a win.

4. In that same game, Lee Evans make the nastiest move I have ever seen. He faked the quick slant causing two Jet defenders to completely bite and then streaked down the side line wide open for the touchdown. Losman made a perfect pass as the Bills dominated New York.

3. Versus Jacksonville, Roscoe Parrish had an 80+ yard punt return that was one of the nicest plays I have ever seen. He proved his play making ability, and with a little help from Kiwaukee Thomas, he was able to score opening up a 24-14 Bills lead.

2. In that same game, tied at 24 late, Losman moved to his left and fired a dart to the sideline to Roscoe Parrish who made an incredible catch. He went up, caught the ball, and tiptoed the sideline to get his feet in leading to the game winning field goal. Royal should take notes.

1. Against the Texans, JP Losman had many doubters. Can this guy win in the 4th quarter? Well, JP for the first time in his career won the Bills a football game. His last second pass to Peerless Price was gorgeous and this march started the Bills run. He proved that he can be the Bills starter for the future and a winner as well.

Biggest coaching disaster of the season

It makes me sick to think about this again but here it goes. The Bills used 3 timeouts in 2 plays against San Diego in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Buffalo completed a pass to the sideline to Price and it was ruled incomplete. The Bills, who didn't know the rules, thought it was a catch. So Jauron burns a timeout. The Bills have a commercial break to look at the play, see that Price's feet didn't come down and realize it was incomplete. Instead, they challenge the play. They lose the challenge and lose another timeout. They lost 2 timeouts in 1 play. Embarrassing. A guy that does that should be fired. Jauron called a timeout to challenge a play.

(Honorable mention: 3rd and 1 versus the Titans in the fourth up 2. Empty backfield, shotgun. WOW)

AWARDS

MVP
  • Lee Evans. This guy is the best player on the Bills football team. He is top 5 in the NFL in my opinion. His skill and attitude make him a great leader and his play is even better.
Most Improved
  • This has to go to JP Losman. After week7 people, including myself, were calling for Nall. Since then he has proved himself to be a quality starting quarterback for the Bills not only for now, but for the future.
Best Coach
  • Gotta give it to Bobby April. The Bills special teams was among the best in the league again.
Best Lineman
  • Jason Peters. He is going to be an elite player in this league.
Best Defensive Player
  • Nate Clements. Shut down corner, the Bills need to resign this guy. The past 10 games, he has been money in the bank.
Most Overrated
  • Aaron Schobel. This guy gets most of his sacks in garbage time. You cannot compare this guy to a Jason Taylor or a Julius Peppers. He is decent and had a good year but is not great.
Best Special Teamer
  • Moorman. He is a pimp.
Rookie of the Year
  • I am going to go with Whitner. This is tough because a lot of guys stepped in and did a great job. We didn't hear much about the 2 young safeties but that is because they didn't get beat deep often if at all. Whitner will be a solid player for the Bills for years to come.
Other last minute points
  • Jauron is a pussy and I don't like him as a coach. Down 16-7 facing 3rd and 8 in the fourth vs the Ravens he hands the ball to Anthony Thomas. The Bills were down 2 scores and not playing for anything. That was an awful play. He plays too scared and doesn't show enough emotion for me. I wish we hired Sean Payton when we had the chance but we are stuck with Jauron. Maybe with another year under his belt he will be more comfortable with his guys and take more chances.
  • McGahee is alright. I don't think the Bills used him properly and that is why he didn't do as good as he could have. I am not saying he is elite by any means. But he doesn't deserve the bad rap he is getting. Let this guy play out his contract. Look at Baltimore. Jamal Lewis didn't do shit for the first 3 quarters but the Ravens stuck with him. The Bills completely abandoned the run and became one dimensional as soon as the run looked like it might struggle.
There will be more posts soon to come. Bills in 07.
